The Ancient Wisdom Of Ayurveda For Modern Wellbeing
Ayurveda originated in India over 5000 years ago.
It’s the oldest known medical science and takes a total holistic approach to life and wellbeing, embracing the mind, body, emotions and soul, as well as the effects of the environment.
Ayurveda is based on the holistic and phytoactive properties of plants.
Urban Veda Use Over 200 Botanical Extracts In Their Skincare
Urban Veda believe the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda fits seamlessly into a modern 21st century lifestyle.
But unlike so many things in the modern world, Ayurveda doesn’t believe just in the quick fix.
Naturally formulated using Ayurvedic herbs, roots, flowers and fruits, combined with multi-vitamins and clinically proven actives, Urban Veda helps to maintain skin’s natural balance by infusing it with Omega-rich bio-oils, free radical-fighting antioxidants and vitality-boosting essential fatty acids.
Urban Vedause over 200 botanical extracts across their 4 ranges of skincare to help harmonise environmental factors and purify, soothe, revive and add radiance.

The Simple Self-Abhyanga Technique
Urban Veda Body Oilsare designed to be used with the Ayurvedic ritual of self-massage, abhyanga – thought to nourish the body and enhance overall wellbeing.
I wasn’t familiar with abhyanga, so I did my own bit of research about abhyanaga and how you go about it.
Abhyanga is a full-body ayurvedic massage that uses warm oil to promote overall health and well-being. It involves massaging the body, from head to toe, using oil specifically chosen to help balance the doshas, or energies, in your body.
The choice of oil plays just as much a part of the massage as the technique itself. The oil will help to improve relaxation and bring lightness to the body and awaken your spiritual awareness.
Daily abhyanga uses a subtle but firm touch, rather than the focus being on manipulating muscle tissues.
It’s all about liberal application of warm, nourishing oils to your entire body, both with love and awareness.
Self-message is best if you take a seated position and allow the oils to absorb fully. Always ensure you do this on an empty stomach.
There aren’t any hard and fast rules for self-massage, but here are a few guidelines:
- Don’t forget to massage your head with your fingertips
- Always massage your abdomen in a clockwise direction, in sync with the direction of your digestive system.
- Work upwards and out on your neck and face
- Use circular motions around the joints.
- Don’t miss any part (toes, fingers, buttocks, back – if you are able to reach it, then massage it!)
Please Note
There are a few occasions when it’s advisable not to practice self-abhyanga; when you are suffering from a fever or infection, indigestion or loose motions, if you are menstruating or have a cough or cold.

For Every Order Placed Online, Urban Veda Plant A Mangrove Tree
Urban Veda are supporting 3 distinct tree-planting programmes, planting over 75 different indigenous and native tree species across Southern India, East Africa and Madagascar, facilitated by their partners Selva and planted on the ground by Eden reforestation.
Firstly, for every order placed online, they plant one Mangrove Tree.
Secondly, they also plant trees to offset the shipping of their products and deliveries and, thirdly even more, to counter the annual emissions of their workforce.
These offsetting projects are based on planting food-bearing species in poorer communities to create food forests and include plants such as mango, guava, cashew, avocado, baobab and macademia, amongst others.
