His cold water therapy and breathing techniques have amassed millions of devoted followers world wide.

What Are Wim Hof’s 3 Simple, Natural Pillars?
Wim’s Method is based on 3 powerful pillars :
- Breathing
- Cold Therapy
- Commitment
All sounding a bit daunting?
Honestly, there’s no need for any fear – I’ll explain more below to put your mind at ease ….
Breathing
Wim has used these very same effective pillars to accomplish many amazing feats, believed by many to be impossible.
He’s set more than two dozen Guinness World Records and confounded medical professionals using the process.
He’s run a half marathon above the Arctic Circle bear foot, wearing shorts.
If that’s not impressive enough, he’s also run a full marathon through Africa’s Namib Desert without drinking any water!
As well as swum underneath a thick layer of ice for more than two hundred feet and stood packed in ice for hours at a time without his core body temperature dropping and so much more.
How To Get Back In Touch With The Awe Of Your Body, Mind & Humanity?
Wim stresses that he doesn’t see himself as a guru and he didn’t invent any of these techniques.
Cold exposure and conscious breathing have been practiced for thousands of years.
He just wants to ignite and put us back in touch with the awe of our body, mind and humanity and push past our conditioning.
Wim’s Method Helps People & Remarkable Results Are Seen
People all over the world have been taught by Wim Hof and remarkable results have been seen.
Those who have embraced his method have been able to reverse diabetes, relieve symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis; and address a host of other autoimmune illnesses from Lupus to Lyme Disease.
You Can Practice Within The Comfort Of Your Own Home
No pills, injections, supplements, equipment or special diet is necessary.
It almost seems too good to be true!
Why I’m A Wim Hof Fan And Why You Might Want To Be Too
I’ve been a Wim Hof fan for quite a while now and have recommended him to others.
And I discovered Wim on the internet, as he seemed to be popping up everywhere. And he kept appearing on other people’s websites and podcasts that I follow, so it was impossible to avoid him.
I was curious, so I looked Wim up on You Tube and bought his book.
I joined a couple of Wim Hof Facebook Groups, where everyday people are sharing their cold shower and ice bath experiences, plus their daily dips in ice cold sea water etc and how his method has been life changing for them. Both their stories and the scenery in the photo’s are awe inspiring.
But venturing straight into an ice bath wasn’t for me. I wasn’t brave enough to take the plunge!
Ice Cold Water Can Be Quite Shocking!
I decided to take baby steps and try the Wim Hof Method Protocol “Cold Exposure For Beginners”.
Ice cold water can be quite shocking!
So to reduce the impact of the shock and instead allow the ice water to optimise my cardiovascular system, I began with ending my warm shower with just 15 seconds of cold water.
The warm water opens up your veins, aiding blood flow. Then you take a quick blast of cold water.
When you shift the temperature from warm to cold, all the little muscles in your vascular system begin to awaken. They close up then open, close up and open and this repetitive process establishes the vascular muscle tone that, with repeated exposure, develops into its optimal condition.
Admittedly, I started tentatively by exposing just one leg to the cold water, then another, then my arms, my torso and then my head
Once I was used to that, I extended it to 30 seconds, then more.
It’s just so exhilarating – I highly recommend you to give it a try!
Over time, the tone of your vascular muscles improve and develop and your core body temperature remains just fine.
Your body experiences better blood flow throughout the day, which gives you a lot more energy.
Eventually, when you are able to go longer than 30 seconds, you begin to develop an ability to consciously resist the shock of the cold water. You suppress the shiver response, the gasp. Suddenly the water’s not so cold anymore.
You feel in control and you’re awakening to the physiological power and the neural activity of your own body. It feels awesome!
As They Say “A Cold Shower A Day Keeps The Doctor Away”
Here’s how you can take your first tentative steps towards transforming your health, strength and happiness with Wim Hof’s “WHM Protocol – Cold Exposure For Beginners” :
Exposing yourself to ice water can be quite shocking, so you need to learn to prepare your body if you want to try it (see warning message earlier in the blog).
What Can You Do To Reduce The Impact Of The Shock?
And instead allow the ice water to optimise your cardiovascular system?
Most of us tend to take warm or hot showers, because we don’t like the cold.
But if you end your shower with 15 seconds of cold water at the end of your shower every day and work up to 30 seconds and increase the time as follows :
Week 1 – 15 – 30 seconds of cold water at the end of your warm shower.
Week 2 – 1 minute of cold water at the end of a warm shower.
Week 3 – A minute and a half of cold water at the end of a warm shower.
Week 4 – 2 minutes of cold water at the end of a warm shower.
Wim Says “Follow The Feeling – Don’t Force Anything – You Can Build Up Slowly”
Do this gradually and work your way up, at least 5 days a week.
As your vascular muscle tone develops, it will absorb more and more of the shock until it’s hardly a shock at all.
Your vascular system constricts on demand to protect your vital parts.
What you will notice is your heart rate goes down during the day, reducing your stress level. You’ll feel more energised.
The improved blood flow delivers better nutrition to your cells and you won’t find you often get sick because your body is no longer vulnerable.
Instead you’ll feel strong!
By The End Of Your Fourth Week
Your vascular tone will be optimised to the point that it will be “mind over matter”.
You turn the knob to cold and “will” your body not to react in shock. This is only the beginning of the power of the mind opening up to you.
If you are able to command the vascular system, which is everywhere within your body, you are able to go, at will, to any part and control it consciously.
You’re the boss – and it all started with 15 – 30 seconds of cold water!

“This Morning” presenter Holly Willoughby, who is described as a “Wim Hof superfan”, presented the six-part series opposite comedian Lee Mack.
You’ll see Wim Hof sharing his method with eight daring celebrities who were lined up for this extreme reality series.
They gave up their warm, cosy lives to spend some time in the Italian mountains, taking epic adventures in sub-zero conditions (with a dedicated welfare team on location for the celebrities).
Who Were The Brave Celebrities Taking Part In Freeze The Fear With Wim Hof?
Alfie Boe (Musical Theatre)
Chelcee Grimes (Singer-Songwriter)
Dianne Buswell (Strictly Come Dancing professional)
Gabby Logan (BBC Sports Presenter)
Owain Wyn Evans (Weatherman)
Patrice Evra (Former Footballer)
Professor Green (Rapper & Mental Heath Activist)
Tamzin Outhwaite (EastEnders)
People have been fascinated with how Wim Hof has trained his mind and body to tolerate such incredible strain.
These 8 celebrities bravely prepared to put themselves under similar pressure, under Wim’s guidance.
Each week they faced their fears and set daunting challenges to complete which became progressively more daring as the series went on and he pushed their minds to the limits!
The hope of the programme was to:
- demonstrate the benefits of cold-water therapy
- how vast the potential of the human mind is
- help the celebrities achieve extraordinary results
- provide some motivation to us all at the same time!
What Kind Of Challenges Did The Celebrities Face?
There were no 5 star hotels or fancy apartments for the eight celebrities to stay in, they were accommodated in a tented village on the snowy slopes of the Italian Alps.
Their very first challenge saw them having to plunge themselves into an icy lake through a hole cut out from the ice.
Challenge two entailed them abseiling, facing forwards, down a mountain slope!
Holly Willougby said she thought “no way would I want to do that”.
But, as she watched the transformations in all the celebrities, the moment their mindset flipped and they started to enjoy it, she thought “I want to be doing what they’re doing!”
Lee Mack said he could see 100 percent that Wim does this because he wants to change people for the better, not because he wants to be a TV star.
He continued “Wim is already a massive star on the internet, he doesn’t need TV. It was incredible to see what the celebrities achieved.”
